1 Minutes of previous meeting (30th January 2007)
These were accepted as a true record. No amendments were submitted.

2 Matters arising
  1. The online rota was working well. Jerry was asked only to send emails requesting volunteers for gaps in the cover; the group would keep up to date with changes shown on the online rota.
  2. Everyone was reminded that the volunteer with the mobile phone should sign in with the college switchboard operators in addition to ambulance control at the start of each shift.
  3. The transference of the phone and kit seemed to be working well with the phone appearing to be topped up at all times.
  4. Jerry passed around one of the new LifePak CR plus AEDs so that all could see the difference between them and the original LifePak 500. More details below.
3 Calls since the last meeting
Jerry ran through the calls received since 30th January. In each case those who responded to the calls recounted their experiences of the event.

4 Developments

  1. The lockable cabinets had arrived but unfortunately with the wrong locks fitted. Once this problem has been sorted they will be installed around the campus. Action: Jerry to liaise with the supplier and estates.
  2. The new bags have arrived (one already in use in place of the old green bag) together with two Vitalograph aspirators and two LifePak CR plus AEDs. We are still awaiting the hi-viz vests. One of the AEDs was passed around so that we could familiarise ourselves with it. An instruction  DVD was also supplied with each AED and Jerry is having this copied onto a UWS streaming server so that it can be viewed at any time from a PC. A link will be added to our web page.
  3. Jerry asked for the 4-digit number on the back of each members' staff card. This data will be passed on to Nigel Morris in LIS who will update the college TAC access control system so that all members' cards will open all TAC-controlled exterior doors on the campus.
  4. Although a list of supplies required for the two additional kits was sent to the ambulance service some while ago they have still not yet arrived. Jerry is chasing this (and the ID badges for Ian and Cathy) on a regular basis!
5 Training
There are about half a dozen or so members of staff in the university who have expressed an interest in joining the scheme as additional volunteers. Also Pennard first responders have 3 or 4 people who would like to join them. All these people need initial training and Jerry is trying to set up a training session to cater for all - possibly on a weekend as that seems to suit most people better than a weekday..

6 AOB

  1. Following Geraint's report of call 515858 on 12th March it was agreed that all members should attend the college's Evac chair course [next courses due on Wednesday 18 April - 2.30pm and 4.00pm and again on Friday 22 June – 2.30pm and 4.00pm]. NB Richard Lake also recommends that those who haven't already done so should attend the talkdown/breakaway course, the risk assessment course and the manual handling course.
  2. Jerry was asked to investigate whether all responders could receive some form of notification of a call and promised to investigate. Action: Jerry.
  3. It was mentioned once again that there are areas on the campus where we cannot get a signal on the scheme mobile. Geraint felt that we could possibly eliminate the problem by buying a new phone with a high gain aerial and suggested that we contact Marc Clement or Jaafar Elmirghani for advice and possibly sponsorship. Action: Jerry to contact Marc Clement or Jaafar Elmirghani.
  4. There are two undergraduate students on the campus who both belong to first responders schemes at home. They have both offered to help out with our scheme. However, there are two problems to overcome before that can happen: (a) we need to ensure that they can be contacted without delay when we get a call (They don't have access to an internal phone) and (b)how will they fit into the ongoing rota when they are only in the university during term time.
