Minutes of the meeting held on 7 December 2009 in the LIC, room 609
Present: Jerry, Dan, Diane, Katrina
Apologies: Dave
| 1 | Minutes of August meeting (5 October 2009) | |
| Accepted without amendments or changes. | ||
| 2 | Matters arising | |
| 2.1 | It was unfortunate that the second visit to ambulance control never took place. Diane and Jane were disappointed. It will de difficult to arrange another visit for those who didn't go this time and certainly won't be arranged for some time to come. | |
| 2.2 | The revised on-scene emergency protocol will be followed during the next informal training session on 11 January. | |
| 3 | Calls received | |
|
Six calls have been received since the last meeting. Where possible those
who attended explained what had happened during the calls. Some issues were
raised: 1. To prevent an ambulance getting lost on campus Jerry has suggested to the safety office that perhaps a porter on the gate could "ride shotgun" on the ambulance and guide it to the correct building. 2. The ambulance service authorities have been informed that, unless there will be a delay in getting an ambulance there in good time, university responders should not be called to incidents in the sports village, i.e. the sports centre, the outdoor athletics facilities, the indoor track and the Welsh National Pool, as staff there are first aid trained and have an AED and medical oxygen. |
||
| 4 | Changes to AMPDS codes | |
| Jerry explained that ambulance service authorities had changed a number of AMPDS codes such that FRs will no longer be called to them. Some of the changes make sense, e.g. we will no longer be called to any AMPDS code involving drowning. However, others seem to make no sense at all, e.g. we will be called to a 21D01 - Dangerous Haemorrhage but we won't be called to a 21B01 - Possible Dangerous Haemorrhage! Steve Roberts is meeting with those responsible for the changes in the near future to try to get some of the changes reversed. | ||
| 5 | New volunteers | |
| Jerry has arranged for Gerrard Rothwell (from the East Wales Ambulance Service) to give a 4 day course to new volunteers in the university from 22 February to 25 February 2010. He hopes that 6-7 new volunteers will attend and qualify, thus adding to our numbers, which have reduced steadily over the last year with retirements, people leaving the university and other reasons. | ||
| 6 | Swine Flu Inoculations | |
| Jerry would like to know if all university FRs have had their Swine Flu jabs. Those present had but as there was a poor attendance he'll need to contact other team members to find out who else has/hasn't had the jab. | ||
| 7 | Any other business | |
| Noted that the new shift structure is working OK albeit with frequent gaps, which will only be filled when the new volunteers join the team. | ||
| 8 | Date of next training session and business meeting | |
| Training session - Monday 11 January 2010 @ 1.00 pm in room 703. | ||
| Business meeting - Monday 1 February 2010 @ 1.00 pm in room 703. | ||
