Minutes of the meeting held on 4 August 2008 in the LIC, room 703
Present: Jerry, Diane, Jane, Ian, Mike, Katrina, Christine, Geraint
Apologies: Cathy.
| 1 | Minutes of previous meeting (17 June 2008) |
| Accepted without amendments or changes. | |
| 2 | Matters arising |
|
2.1 Still no date set for Moving and Handling
course. 2.2 The new rota seems to be working well. Of 26 "registered" responders on the scheme only 12 are actually participating on a regular basis on the rota. Of the remainder: 3 have resigned (students left university); 3 are on long-term leave; 4 are either on placement off-campus or awaiting clearance checks/training; 3 are "reserves" and the status of the remaining 1 is unknown. 2.3 Geraint suggested that we investigate the possibility of buying one of the new digital radios (as used by porter/security staff) to keep in touch with ambulance control as their coverage on campus is understood to be 100% with such radios. Jeremy offered to investigate the technical issues with the ambulance service and Mark Durdin. ACTION: JERRY 2.4 Jerry was awaiting a call from cardiac Science regarding the status of the training AED order (placed in February). |
|
| 3 | Calls received |
| Jerry ran through the calls received since the last meeting. In each case those who responded to the calls recounted their experiences of the event. | |
| 4 | Any other business |
|
4.1 Jane felt that something other that printed material
(either in manuals or on web pages) was required to remain up to date and
fully trained. She suggested that training videos or films may do the trick
as watching any process on film delivered a more effective training effect
that reading alone. Jerry offered to contact Steve Roberts (and
others?) to see what suitable material was available. ACTION: JERRY 4.2 Geraint asked if it would be possible to buy pulse oximeters for each kit. As the cost of buying 3 of these work out at £400-450, we will have to be sure that it will be cost effective. Jerry will talk to Steve Roberts about this issue. ACTION: JERRY 4.3 All present were reminded once again that if they wanted to spend an evening with an ambulance crew they should contact Richard Gronow (Neath) or Huw Phillips (Ammanford) directly. |

| 5 | CPR Practice |
| Some time was spent
practicing CPR on our new manikin, Brad. It was noted that Brad is available for any team member to borrow at any time for personal practice. |

| 6 | Date of next meeting |
| Confirmed: Monday 1 September at 1pm in room 703. | |
